Past Imperfect Future Tense by british photographer Paul Vickery documents the multilayered and sometimes confusing lives of individuals considered ‘outsiders’ in society.

A series of portraits of a New York based Mexican sub-culture, the project raises questions around notions of identity and explores the contradictory nature of the human condition.

Allowing ambiguity to become part of the work itself, the project aims to examine the extent to which image making can offer meaning beyond the visible exterior
